Lackawanna Railroad F3A #664, F3B #664B & F3A #663 at Spencer . North Carolina . Watercolor . 18" x 24"
... from my pencil sketch, drawing on site, during the blazing, hot afternoon of May 30, 2014, at the "Streamliners at Spencer" event held four days over the end of May, at the North Carolina Transportation Museum. Lackawanna #664 is owned by the Anthracite Railroads Historical Society... and #663 is owned by the Tri-State Railway Historical Society and both currently operate from the Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton, Pennsylvania. This pair of F3's, both former Bangor & Aroostook units built in 1948, the oldest EMD F units operating in the USA... were painted in Lackawanna heritage livery in 2010, after having run for several years under Central New Jersey, tangerine & blue, as #56 & #57... out of Jim Thorpe. The B unit is a former Boston & Maine acquisition, built in 1950 and received the Lackawanna heritage colors in 2014.
