Old Portage Island Rear Range Lighthouse . Shippagan . New Brunswick . Canada . Watercolor . 9" x12"

... this 1869 lighthouse was originally built as the rear range light on Portage Island on Miramichi Bay. After the two Portage (front and rear) range lights were replaced by a pair of steel skeleton towers, these old lights sat dormant and deteriorating for many years. In 1986, this rear lighthouse was acquired by the New Brunswick Aquarium and Marine Centre and moved to Burnt Church, refurbished and then reassembled and set in Shippagan, for use as an information and interpretative center. This tapered, square, light tower is well preserved and displayed on the wharf at the Shippagan Marina, adjacent to the Aquarium. Illustrated at the time of my October, 2016 visit.

A 9x12" on 11x14" Giclee Print is available of this watercolor painting / lighthouse art > Details & Overview Here.
